The ISA Education Foundation has published the new Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies. Both Jane Brennom, ISA CAPP and Todd Sigety, ISA CAPP of Appraiser Workshops contributed informative articles to the inaugural edition of the appraisal journal.
Jane wrote an interesting and much needed article on appraising Bronze statuary. In the article, Jane states "because of the potential range of ages and types of true or artificial bronzes, bronze art sculptures can pose some unique challenges for appraisers." The article includes information on casting methods, patina, identification and how to evaluate and examine bronze sculpture. The article also discusses dating bronzes and how to determine if a bronze is an original or a reproduction. A must read for any appraiser who appraisers bronze or bronze like sculpture.
Todd, also the editor of the Journal contributed an article on an appraisal valuation formula, called Q-CAMM, for quality condition adjusted mean methodology. The quality condition adjusted mean regulates comparable values based upon condition level and quality points and arrives at a final value conclusion. Q-CAMM continues to rely upon the personal opinion an experience of the appraiser while introducing additional mathematical components to basic statistical averaging.
The Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies includes original research articles, reviews and topical discussions of professional appraisal issues and concerns from a variety of perspectives, theories and approaches. The 2008 edition contains over 300 pages of content with 20+ articles and contributions from many nationally and internationally recognized personal property appraiser and from appraisal related industries such as auction houses, insurance brokerages, museums and cultural property conservationists. The Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies is avaialbe for sale at www.appraisaljournal.org.
