Stolen Egyptian Artifacts Revcovered in NYC

Art Daily is reporting that U.S. Immigration and Customs has recovered several Egyptian artifacts from a New York City auction house. The name of the auction house has not been released. The artifacts had been stolen from the Bijbels Museum in Amsterdam on July 29, 2007.

The Art Loss Register also played a valuable role in the recovery of the artifacts, discovering there whereabouts and reporting them to authorities. The ALR is becoming very involved, active and sophisticated in assisting the recovery of stolen and looted property. The reach is growing far beyond Nazi looted art and provenance research. The Art Loss Register is working closely with US Immigration and Customs to track and recover stolen artifacts from around the world.

Although not mentioned in the Art Daily piece, and not to spread any untruths, there are rumors the items were recovered from one of the large international houses in New York City.
