The site seems to be a premium offering (fee based, see below for details) which includes an auction database beyond Sotheby's own listings. It also has an alert service on artist sales, and show information. A portion of the site is free with registration, but most useful features are fee based. Much of the info on the site is Sotheby's related, so I am not sure how it far the reach will be beyond Sothebys, but that alone is substantial.
A I have mentioned in the past on the AW Blog, the large auction houses are branching into many fine and decorative arts related fields. I wonder if the now open Sotheby's sold lot auction database is moving toward a fee based structure on the MutualArt site.
