Reminder: Take the Fractional Interest Survey

Reminder to AW Blog readers.

If you have not yet taken the Fractional Interest survey, please take a few moments to complete.  It will assist appraisal interns and grad students at Sotheby's Institute.

The survey introduction states:

Following this introduction is a questionnaire in which we hope you, as a member of the art community, will complete and return. The purpose of this survey is to gather opinion on a topic that has been frequently discussed, but never resolved, concerning the issue of discounting fractional interest in estates that contain works of art – whether a single piece or multiple items.

As graduate students and interns, we desire to develop greater insight into the occasional practice of discounting works of art inherited by two or more persons or trusts following the death of a collector. This practice is frequently relied upon in matters of real estate, but has only begun to be utilized in art. Our goal is to determine whether such a practice is considered acceptable among leaders in the field of art, and what their reasoning is behind their given opinions.

We hope to conclude this survey by mid-June, and wish to thank you in advance for your participation.

All information given will be used solely for this survey.
