Bonhams has been a supporter of many appraisers and appraisal chapters and associations. ISA just had Malcom Barber, CEO and Group Managing Director of Bonhams at our conference in Tempe. He is an excellent speaker. I also have placed a David Howard Hitchcock painting in the May 1st California and Western Paintings sale for a client (see image, lot 169). I worked with specialist Scot Levitt from the LA office and have been very pleased with their service and expertise.
Info on the Mini conference from the NorCal chapter of ASA follows:
Bonhams Auction House, San Francisco & Los Angeles
Bonhams is the only international auction house with a dedicated sale category in California art and is the market leader in California contemporary art. Made in California Post-War and Contemporary Art is a biannual auction that previews in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. This auction reaches an international clientele with buyers around the world and features works by some of the most sought-after artists of today.
Join us for this outstanding opportunity to meet with the specialists at Bonhams, San Francisco for a behind the scenes look at the Made in California auction. Sharon Goodman-Squires and Brooke Corley at will give us a private preview of the " Made in California: Post-War and Contemporary Art” sale while discussing the highlights of the show and trends in California Contemporary art. In addition, we will learn how a sale is put together, including how property is acquired, how reserves and estimates are set, how a sale is marketed, and how fees are assessed. The authentication process, Resale Royalty Act and the benefits for appraisers using Bonhams as a sale resource are also some of the subjects we will cover.
A question and answer period will follow the discussion.
