The ISA annual conference, Assets 2012 in Tempe, AZ was one great time. The mood of members was so positive and some of the new initiatives such as new bridging policies, record digitization, new website and new logos were all met with great enthusiasm and excitement. The crowds were strong and the program was great. The conference included a interesting mix of speakers from related professions, such as Malcom Barber of Bonham's, to former Arizona Governor Rose Mofford, and Jane Milosch, Smithsonian Institution, as well as some of our own stars, such as Cindy Charleston Rosenberg who blew her audience away while presenting on appraising 4 Gilbert Stuart portraits of George Washington. The methodology and research was fantastic to hear.
The Foundation for Appraisal Education had a wonderful evening auction with auctioneers Fred Winer and Lee Dunbar. The business meeting was well attended and the mood about the future growth of ISA was very positive. Images and content were being posted to Facebook throughout the conference, so those not in attendance could follow the events.
On Friday evening the Foundation for Appraisal Education held its annual Reading Between the Wines event to celebrate the newest edition of the Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies. As a matter of fact, the party was "off the hook". The Foundation of course supplies free wine and beer, the suite was jammed with appraisers. The hotel eventually had to come and ask us to move to another location because we were getting loud and the crowds were still growing, while the room was overflowing into the hallway of the hotel. Who ever said appraisers can't party!
ISAs next annual conference is in Chicago in April of 2013, and I am sure it will be another great time. You dont want to miss it. It is a great time to be an ISA member!
