ASA Personal Property Courses


ASA personal property discipline is offering classes at the University of Chicago's Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies. See the press release below for course information/links and dates.

Also, on August 1 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm EDT ASA will be featuring a webinar entitled Marketing on a Shoestring.  In our economy today, our marketing dollars to go far and a webinar on this topic will certainly benefit the professional appraisal practice. The webinar cost is only $50 for ASA members and $75.00 for non members.

Upcoming Personal Property Appraisal Courses Announced

RESTON, VA (July 3, 2012) – The American Society of Appraisers personal property discipline will offer classes at the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies, Chicago, IL, for those looking for professional development or personal enrichment in the field of personal property appraisal, as well as for members of ASA, and other members of the appraisal profession

Four classes will be offered:

PP201: Introduction to Personal Property Valuation, October 17-20. This course covers general valuation theory; basic appraisal terminology; economic concepts that apply to valuation; an overview of the appraisal process; introduction to ethical concerns of the appraiser and introduction of professional standards, The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).

PP202: Personal Property Valuation Methodology-Research and Analysis, November 28-December 1. This course addresses the scope of work process, research methods, analysis of markets and sales, approaches to value, developing the workile for the appraisal of property, review and expansion of appraisal terminology. Prerequisite: completion of PP/GJ 201.

PP203: Personal Property Valuation—Report Writing, January 16-19, 2013. This course addresses the components of a written appraisal report; development of the appraisal narrative and strengthening appraisal-writing skills in valuing property for insurance scheduling; and online market research and analysis of market data to complete an individual appraisal using course materials introduced in PP/GJ202.

PP204: Personal Property Valuation—The Legal and Commercial Environment, April 10-13, 2013. This course addresses the uses and application of fair market value; management of an appraisal practice; legal precedents; insurance and tax law; development of expert witness skills; and ethical and professional standards.

If the appraiser's opinion is based on Market Value, then it must also be based on the Highest and Best Use of the real property. For mortgage valuations of improved residential property in the US, the appraisal is most often reported on a standardized form, such as the Uniform Residential Appraisal Report.Property Appraisal
