A painting was ruined by an eldery woman who thought she could restore it. The woman, who is in her 80s believed she was doing the right thing when she set about to restore the fresco of Jesus Christ in a Spanish church. The painting was in need of restoration, but here work, to say the least did not help, and turned the painting into a cartoon figure.
According to sources, the church had already obtained funds from the artists granddaughter to properly conserve the painting. The painting is now being analyzed to see if the recent repaint can be removed, and the painting properly restored.

While the octogenarian has acknowledged the damage, she told state-run TVE that the parish priest authorized the restoration.
"The priest knew! He did! How could we do something like that without permission? He knew," Jimenez said. "Everybody who came into the church could see me as I was painting. I didn't do anything secretly."
The town's culture councilor, Juan Jose Ojeda, said that a team of professional restorers will visit the site to assess what can be done to salvage the work.
