Results: Sotheby's NY 19th Century Furniture and Dec Arts

Sotheby's recently held its NY 19th Century Furniture and Decorative arts Sale.  A Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener piano a queue
by Steinway sold for $422,500 including buyers premium.

The pre sale total estimate was $3.8 million to $5.7 million.  The sales totaled have yet to post, but looking through the individual results, there were many lots which were bought-in, and the trend is a bit concerning. On one results pages there were about 30 lots listed, and I quickly counted 19 unsold lots, on a second page about the same with 18 being unsold.  If the % of unsold lots was that high through out, the sale could not be considered a success.

Sotheby's reported on the sale
The 19th Century Furniture and Decorative Arts sale on 24 October featured a broad array of silver, decorative arts, furniture and sculpture. Leading the sale was an art-case grand piano a queue by Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener with a musical instrument by Steinway and Sons. This piece sold above the high estimate at $422,500.

Another highlight was a very fine pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted sevres style cobalt blue ground porcelain vases which soared to $104,500, well above the high estimate of $35,000.
