Results: Christie's NY Post War and Contemporary Art


Another day, and another record evening for contemporary art.  After Sotheby's set a record, Christie's comes right back and sets a new record for contemporary art sales.  The Christie's Post War and Contemporary evening sale totaled record high of $412.3 million including buyers premiums.

According to Christie's eight new auction records were established.  11 works sold for over $10 million, 16 for over $5 million and 56 for over $1 million. The sale was 93% sold by value and 92% sold by lot, with 67 lots selling.

The top selling lot was Andy Warhol’s “Statue of Liberty” dating from 1962, selling for $43.76 million including buyers premium, the estimate was upon request, but it was said to be around $35 million.
