Mini Study Seminar with Gloria Stella Garaventa

Gloria Garaventa is currently a consultant to Bonhams in the area of Japanese prints and paintings, where she researches and catalogues Japanese art for auction. She has in-depth knowledge of Japanese art with a strong background in Asian Art. Gloria was an Associate Curator of Asian Art at the University of California and a Senior Appraiser of Japanese prints and paintings for Butterfield & Butterfield. As a consultant, she has also worked with appraisers in Northern California. She has a Master of Arts in Japanese art history and was in the PhD program in art history at the University of California, Berkeley.

Garaventa will concentrate on source material—printed and internet—for identification of Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods (late 19th century and first half of the 20th century) and will present sources for verification of Hiroshige/Hokusai and other major Edo period figures. Resource guides will be given to students at the end of the seminar.
