Observation

As some of you may be aware I live in Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, DC. The Old Town area has many historic and old townhomes and properties dating from the Federal period. It also was an area where many of the homes were furnished with period style rooms.

On Thursday, while on the Metro heading to meet with AAA leadership and the TAFAC personal property committee meeting I found a local newspaper with a spotlight on an Old Town home for sale.  It was built in 1760 with later additions, and would be the perfect home, and perhaps one might expect it to be a home for a great collection of antique furniture.  Well maybe not, the image of one of the rooms is all contemporary furniture of the restoration hardware, pottery barn or decorator variety.

This and of course many other examples clearly shows why values of antique furniture has declined in value.  Yes, the asking price is $1,698,000
