ISA Annual Conference, 2018

The International Society of Appraisers released the program for its Assets 2018 annual conference. According to the ISA website, "Assets 2018 will take place at The Westin Pasadena in Pasadena, California, March 9-12, 2018. Join us as we explore the theme "The Gold Standard: Innovation & Valuation" through educational sessions and special tours. And, you'll get the opportunity to connect with your fellow appraisers at our social events."

The program, as usual is strong, and it will be nice to visit California and Pasadena for our conference.  I am also looking forward to trying  In-N-Out Burger.

I am honored to be one of the speakers in a joint presentation with Cindy Charleston Rosenberg, ISA CAPP titled, Beyond Readily Apparent Identity, with a brief description of the topic being

"As object identification and authentication grow ever more significant in developing credible appraisal conclusions, the proper application and use of the Readily Apparent Identity disclaimer becomes more of a challenge for appraisers. This presentation will explore the potential benefits and hazards of using Readily Apparent Identity disclaimers for both fine and decorative arts appraisals, and how to go further when required."

Cindy and I are excited about presenting on readily apparent identity and we will look at RAI disclaimers through the application and consideration of differing opinions, expert opinions, due diligence, research, and changing scholarship. Cindy will be presenting from a fine art perspective and I will be presenting from the decorative arts/furniture perspective. It should be a very interesting presentation with content that all personal property appraisers should be aware of and consider when developing value conclusions.
