The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors will offer their clock evaluation course April 10-15, 2018 at the Museum and Research Library in Columbia, PA.

The course is designed to provide appraisers, auctioneers, collectors and anyone interested in the field of horology with a rigorous five and a half day program to enable them to properly identify the wide range of clock styles and to learn techniques to determine their value. Recognition of certain traits and subtle characteristics which effect value will be a prime consideration to avoid costly mistakes in the sales room, appraisal report or personal collection.  Basic mechanics will also be covered to enable the participants to recognize proper function and how defects, modifications and repairs impact value.

The course was originally developed and taught by Joe “JC” Cohen, Silver Star Fellow of the NAWCC.  JC has handed over the instruction of the course to International Society of Appraisers member Joseph M. Jabbour, M.D. who was a former student of the class, a retired plastic surgeon and is now an appraiser of clocks and watches in the DC Metro area.  Guest lecturer Cindy Charleston-Rosenberg, ISA CAPP, past president of the International Society of Appraisers, will be presenting on the benefits of qualified appraisal training and the path to the ISA Qualification.  JC’s syllabus will be used and provided to participants in book form along with 3 other horological books in digital format.

The course will use the facilities and resources of the NAWCC Museum, which is the largest clock museum in the country, as well as the extensive Research Library with behind the scenes tours of both. The Museum staff and Dr. Jabbour will assist the students with research projects using the Library’s vast archives and horological material.

There will be reading assignments both before and during the course, quizzes, a final exam and graded research projects. A Certificate of Completion will be given to students who successfully complete the course and pass the exams.  That certificate has been used in the past as part of the ISA’s specialization designation.

Lodging has been reserved at the Heritage Golf Resort, located in nearby York, PA at significantly reduced rates.

For additional information and to register, please contact Ms. Gillian Radel, the Director of Education at the NAWCC. 717-684-8261 ext. 237.
