Just received an email from the Art Newspaper on a summit they are hosting with the ADAA in NYC on transparency in the art market. I know this is a timely subject with much discussion on ethics and transparency coming from appraisers, specialists and the IRS. There have been some recent concerns about the use and transparency of dealer comps in appraisals regarding the transparency and accuracy, although auction house transparency has issues as well, such as financing terms and guarantees. All which can impact a sale price at auction, and if undisclosed comprise the use a a comparable.
